OVERHEARD
Privacy Policy

Your meetings stay yours.

Last updated: October 25, 2026

Overheard is an iPhone app that records meetings, with the iPhone's microphone or connected devices such as Ray-Ban Meta glasses, and turns them into transcripts and notes. This policy explains what the app does with your data. In short: everything is stored on your iPhone, we run no servers and have no accounts, and anything that leaves your phone goes only to services you choose to turn on.

What stays on your iPhone

Recordings, audio you share into the app (for example voice notes from WhatsApp), transcripts, notes, photos and text you add during a meeting, tags and settings are stored only in the app's storage on your device. They are not sent to us. Deleting a meeting or the app deletes them. You can also have the app delete audio automatically after a number of days.

API keys you enter for optional cloud services are kept in the iOS Keychain.

Processing on your iPhone

If you choose "On iPhone" for transcription or notes, Overheard uses Apple's on-device speech recognition and Apple Intelligence. Your audio and text are processed on your device and are not sent anywhere by Overheard.

Optional cloud services

Only if you turn them on and add your own API key, Overheard sends data directly from your iPhone to these providers. We never see it.

DeepgramReceives the audio of a recording to transcribe it and tell speakers apart. Deepgram privacy policy.
Anthropic (Claude)Receives the transcript text (not the audio), plus context you provide such as meeting type, calendar title, participant names and your notes, to write the minutes and answer your questions. Anthropic privacy policy.

These providers handle the data under their own terms and your agreement with them. You can switch back to on-device processing at any time.

Permissions the app asks for

Microphone and BluetoothTo record from your iPhone or a Bluetooth device such as Ray-Ban Meta glasses. If you use the glasses integration, Meta's Wearables SDK reads their status (battery, whether they are worn) on your device.
Speech recognitionFor on-device transcription.
CalendarOptional. To name a meeting after the current event, list its participants and their email addresses, and remind you when a meeting starts.
RemindersOptional. To add meeting tasks to Apple Reminders when you ask.
CameraOptional. To take photos of a whiteboard or slides during a meeting.
NotificationsOptional. For meeting-start reminders.
Face IDOptional. To lock the app.

Calendar and reminders data is read and written on your device only.

Sharing

When you send minutes or audio, Overheard opens Mail, Gmail or the iOS share sheet with the content ready. Nothing is sent until you send it yourself, from your own account.

What we don't do

Recording other people

Recording conversations may require the consent of everyone involved, depending on where you are. Please let people know when you record them.

Children

Overheard is not directed at children under 13.
